'Big pharma' or big pharma is the collective name given to the top pharmaceutical companies in the world ranked by global sales of prescription drugs while ‘big biotech’ or big biotech is the collective name given to the top biotechnology companies in the world ranked by global sales of prescription drugs.

Another measure of partnering activity apart from the number of deals signed/announced is the size of the deal. Deal size provides an indication of the significance of the deal and the potential opportunity for each party.
