Reckitt acquires SSL International in $3.9 billion transaction

Date of publication: July 22, 2010

The makers of Neurofen painkillers and Durex condoms have announced a deal in which Reckitts will acquire SSL in a deal worth $3.9 billion. See this illustrated on our 2010 M&A Scorecard

The deal announced by these companies, who also produce Cillit Bang cleaning products and Scholl footcare solutions, is the largest in SSL history.

This deal brings two new categories to Reckitts and will add to their core business of fabric care, dish washing and over the counter drugs. It will increase their personal healthcare sales by 36 % to one third of the company’s total net revenue.

This deal also follows the announcement in December 2007 that Reckitts acquired Adams Respiratory Therapeutics, the company that commercialises the decongestant product Mucinex and the cough suppressant Delsym. in a deal worth $60 dollars per share in cash or a total of $2.3 billion.

These acquisitions represent another step forward in Reckitt Benckiser’s growth strategy in consumer healthcare and will add to their portfolio of brand products.
