Date of publication: July 1, 2010
Diamyd Medical have announced a commercialization agreement with Janssen Pharma regarding their GAD65 antigen-based type I diabetes therapy. This agreement will ensure that Diamyd(TM) is marketed and commercialized in the Nordic regions. See this illustrated on our Partnering 2010 Scorecard.
The value of the deal could total $625 million. This includes an upfront payment of $45 million plus development and sales milestones that could generate a further $580 million.
This is the first deal that Diamyd Medical has announced with Janssen Pharma. It follows their licensing strategy to actively develop the GAD technology with a view to finding a partner to commercialize the Diamyd (TM) treatment for type I diabetes and associated conditions.
This is the latest in deal to be announced in 2010 by Janssen. Whilst the therapy areas have been varied and range from diabetes, inflammatory disorders, cancer and CNS disorders, Janssen have continued to focus on announcing deals that require both parties to take an active and collaborative participation to ensure success is achieved.
More specifically the deals announced by Janssen recently have included a range of collaborative R&D, co-promotion and co-marketing whereas Diamyd Medical have focussed on deals that require the licensing of technologies.
The deal announced between Diamyd Medical and Janssen to bring Diamyd(TM) to the Nordic market will provide Diamyd Medical with a strong platform to move forward with regard to developing a successful diabetes strategy.
