Cordis reaches coronary stent settlement with Boston Scientific

Posted on 02 March 2010

The settlement between Cordis and Boston Scientific announced in February 2010 is the second agreement between the companies following a long running dispute. The litigation started several years ago as a result of disputed patents in the field of stents.

The litigation was pending in a court in Delaware and involved several coronary stent products including Cordis’ Cypher and Boston’s Liberte, Taxus Liberte and Taxus Express. The current settlement provides for a total payment of $1.725 billion to Cordis.

This is the second settlement agreement announced between the parties in the past year. An earlier settlement between the companies in September 2009 worth $716 million covered Boston’s NIR stent.

These settlements do not affect other litigation including Cordis lawsuits against boston Scientific’s Promus stent products.
